Good luck. Replacing was the only thing that worked for me...
Remove rubber lining from the handle pocket, it hides a screw.I have been following this thread and have a most basic question that it is embarrassing to even ask. I am not sure how to remove the control. Is the large chrome surround pried off and does the small ring get removed first?
___Thanks everyone for the info in this thread. I have the same jittery driver's window behavior as many on an 06 Limited that I just bought, so ordered part number 83071XA00A from quirkparts. When it arrives I plan to replace the part with the new one, then take the old one apart and try to clean it for a spare.
BTW - I had several Subies years back, but grew weary of the lack of power and head gasket issues with the NA 4 cylinder. I don't drive a lot, preferring to ride my two wheeled vehicles when I can, so decided to replace a more expensive vehicle which was not being used with something older. This was my previous MO, but got off track.
I knew nothing of Tribecas, barely knowing they existed, until I test drove mine a week ago today. It isn't perfect, but it's pretty good and I like it. I love the size and form factor of this car. And my bike fits in the back (rear seats down of course) with room to spare. It's a really cool vehicle.
Bought a new switch from dealer online. Thanks. I will pull the door panel and get to the motor, wiring and rails. That's frustrating!
Did you replace it with a new or used switch?
I think you are stuck pulling out the new switch and troubleshooting it. If it is working, you probably have a wiring or motor issue.
Thanks. I bought a new switch. I think I will spray the old switch with some cleaner and try to see if I can get that working along with the 'new' switch that just failed. If that doesnt work then I am diving into the door... motor and wiring. That's frustrating!

I pulled apart one of the switches and sprayed with electic cleaner, moved switches, wiped it and let it dry. Tried the assembly and nothing works, now I dont even have power locks and none of the other windows work - even on their door. I pulled the drivers door panel off and all wires and tracks look good. Not sure what happened but then put panel back on and checked all fuses and relays under dash and hood, disconnected battery for 5 minutes - hoping computer or relays would reset and nothing. Divers window stuck up, passenger windows and sun roof stuck open and power doors wont lock or actuate at all.Thanks. I bought a new switch. Thanks. Finally found a burnt fuse for most of the problems I created (must have shorted it) but driver's window still doesnt work.Personally - I would start with wiring diagram and checking that control signals/voltage/current "arrive" to door.
Not sure about which computer was the question, but multimeter should be enough for simple control signal checking.
Gonna get another switch - 2nd one to burn out. After looking in door it doesnt appear to be anything mechanical.may be switch unit is burned?
