Since we don't (usually) have to replace our timing chain, I was curious as to how long our water pumps tend to live. I usually replace the pump with the timing belt as a precaution but, in our case, I would be going in just to replace the water pump so it is more difficult to justify the labor cost.

Would be more productive to post this on the Outback board. For me, the pump looks normal at 103K. That is, there is some green residue inside the bore that can be seen with good light. This is normal according to auto manufacturers. Just changed the coolant.

Pinging this again, my Tribeca 08 is at 174k miles, just making sure I dont need to change a water pump preventatively. Is that the groups thinking here?
I would personally treat the cooling system well and not change it preventively. That's just me.
