Video input on rear DVD monitor ??

13250 Views 37 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Joeyjoe10
Does anyone know how to plug in an external video source to the rear DVD monitor ? I have an media center with 160Gb hard drive full of kid stuffs for my baby and just wanna play that instead of burn back to DVD and play through DVD player... so here comes the question...

I removed the rear DVD system the other day ( quite simple) to have a look but since I'm not in car electrical expericence so couldn't figure out which wire in the harness feeding video signal to the monitor though...

Here's a remote picture from a 2007 US 7pass limted

As swootton said, there's a Video button. When it's pressed, the rear DVD screen goes blank and says "VIDEO" in text overlay in the top left hand corner. You can still tell theres power to the screen, like it would look if a video input is disconnected.

I havent tried it yet, but my guess is that it would work.

Thanks for the photo. I just ordered one from allsubaru.com so hopefully it would work on Aussie model.

I'm finalising the Media center installation so will post back very soon...
I wanted to make sure you knew what that video button was for....
Dont you have an extra set of rear inputs?

I've attatched an picture of the extra "video game" rear inputs that display on the screen when you push the "video" button on the remote.

Yeb, I know that, the problem is Aussie model doesn't have rear inputs ready made though, just the cover and the harness inside (don't know why they didn't do that really ???). So to test if that harness feed the signal for the rear monitor, the only way is I have to get US remote control to switch the monitor in to that source..
Let us know if it works, then I can do mine. Ha Ha.
Crikey! - If that works my kids will be stoked. I am having major probs with my DVD player. I bought a Black Tribeca (silly me) and the tropical sun here in Darwin heats up the roof and makes the DVD player choke something severe...... I would love to plug a DivX player in there too.....

Glad to see some Aussie mates here as well . Sydney here is a bit cooler though... but I believe Tribeca has the best roof insulation as far as I know. . I have removed the rear DVD system and saw there is a big gap ( about 7cm from the roof to the inside layer, and then there is a underlay in between as well...I have owned a couple of sedans, 4WDs before so I would see much difference when getting back in the car after shopping !

We don't have many choice of color here so black is a good one if you keep clean ( with beige interior). But if you have a close look, it's not really black though... it's metalic black blue !

Cant wait to see the remote control now... :p

Just got the remote control today and it has the Video button as expected. I just did a quick test and everything was working as expected except that Video button !! damn it... how can it happen ? Pressed it many times and nothing happened on the screen....suppose it is the same system... so frustrated now....
Are you guys PAL or NTSC down under? Most likely it's a completely different model DVD player. Even if you guys are NTSC like here in the US, you're a different DVD region so the players would not be identical to ours no matter what. Sucks that it didn't work out for you...I'd be pissed off too after spending all that effort.
Damn it, Sounded like it was a good solution until the last few posts :(
TribecaAussie how did u removed the rear input plastic cover ?seems like i'm not able to take it out..thanks.

You can take it out using a flat head screw driver but disappoint to hear TribecaAussie couldn't get it work. I also have an Aust model 2011.
It would be great if we could work out a method for getting the AUS/UK PAL system to function with a AUX video input. I'm testing out some things now and I've also contacted Panasonic Automotive (super long shot, but it doesn't hurt to try!).
what/how exactly it doesn't work? AUX video input does not care - whether it is PAL, NTSC, SECAM or (almost) anything else. something further up the cable might do though.

It shouldn't care, but I feel as though they have either disabled the input via firmware OR the PAL version just doesn't actually have the physical connections inside the system. Which could explain why the "video" button is missing from the remote. Unfortunately the only wiring diagrams I can find are for the NTSC system, so it's hard to know for sure. Once I get my multimeter back I can do some digging.

In the meantime I prepared the back AUX sockets for use as the wires are behind the blanking plate (as stated previously by others).

I should add my research so far has only led me to the below basic information...

It seems as if the NTSC system has had 2 revisions. These are 86255XA00Axx and 86255XA00Bxx, with "xx" standing for either a grey interior (MV) or a beige interior (EU). Although I'm unsure as to when the "B" revision came into service (maybe in the facelift???)...

I haven't pulled apart my Tribeca to find out what the model number is of the PAL system in my MY13, but I doubt it matches the numbers above and I'm unable to source any information about it online... :(

hi Astro, I've got Australia Tribeca also. Did the rca outlet install work for you in the end?
