Video input on rear DVD monitor ??

Does anyone know how to plug in an external video source to the rear DVD monitor ? I have an media center with 160Gb hard drive full of kid stuffs for my baby and just wanna play that instead of burn back to DVD and play through DVD player... so here comes the question...

I removed the rear DVD system the other day ( quite simple) to have a look but since I'm not in car electrical expericence so couldn't figure out which wire in the harness feeding video signal to the monitor though...

I'm assuming you mean the factory rear DVD right? Anyway, there is a composite video/stereo RCA inputs all the way back in the trunk/third row area on the driver's side. Kinda odd/non-sensical that they are all the way in the back but that's where they are, there's also a 12V outlet back there too right next to it.
We have a plastic blanking plate there in the UK. I've not looked to see if there is any wiring behind it. Not sure what the Australian models come with.

Ah, true...it could be blank on non-USDM models:confused: Wouldn't make much sense to me to leave it out, but it could be a PAL/NTSC issue.

TV system is fine since the media center has an auto mode to switch between PAL/NTSC.

But SimonD is right, Aussie model got the same as UK, there is no input on the back. And that plastic cover is not removable so don't know what the hell inside ???
Sorry to here you guys get left out of the fun...it just doesn't make sense to me why Subaru would remove the aux A/V inputs on foreign models.

Yeah why would they do that just wonder.......I don't care cos I got another one from the back of the NAV monitor now. But as my understanding, those AV input at the back of US model will feed the video signal to the front NAV monitor only, not to the rear monitor though... anyone has a check and confirm please ?
Those inputs do indead feed the rse display not the front unit.

Hey thanks for the info.... May I ask when you feed the video signal into that input then how can you see it on rear monitor ? As on my remote control, I couldn't see any button to change to... like video 1, video 2.... and without the disc in the slot, the monitor turn off itself !!!

I found out the harness on the back but don't know which one will feed video and audio signal though. There are 5 wires in there as the photo attached. Someone there gotta tell me please.....

If there is a harness, I'm sure there is a switch or panel that you can get from the dealer instead of figuring out the wiring. I'd bet Peaty would know or have a blow up of the schematics.

I think the piece that plugs into the harness in the back is called the "terminal" here's a link to it in beige on www.allsubaru.com http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getLocator&siteid=214117&chapter=ARL7540&appSectionid=2413&groupid=69881&subgroupid=4537&componentid=3109&make=32&model=B9%20tribeca&year=2007&graphicID=7540265&callout=6&catalogid=2

There's also this girl Jaime (I think her name is) at http://www.subarugenuineparts.com/ . She's highly recommended over on the NASIOC forums www.nasioc.com I realize your in Australia, but it could be worth a call/email to a US dealer to determine the part name/# and try ordering one.
I found this wiring diagram as well from the RSE service manual. Looks like the harness in your pic should be "aux terminal box" R261. And as you can see in the pics: pins 1,4 are for video; pins 2,3 are right and left audio respectively; and pins 5,6 look to be grounds. With this info you could try just wiring in your own RCA jacks to those pins.

hey Snork, thanks alot, you're the man.... I'll try afterwork this afternoon to see if it work. But still wonder which button on the remote control/dash control will turn on that AUX video signal to the rear monitor though ???. As for front monitor, I just press Audio button twice to get it through...
I haven't actually tried my rear aux AV input, but I believe whenever it senses a signal it'll switch automatically.
You need to press the on/power/display button. I forget what it is called. Then on the menu you can pick inputs - Aux

On Remote control there is 1 button called DVD/CD, one called OFF. The display button just show the source on the DVD is DVD or CD. That's it. I've tried and got no luck to feed the video through rear monitor !!!Can you check again and let me know please ?
Thanks
I checked the remote on the top left you should have dvd-cd, right next to it you should have video. Press that button to get the input feed turned on. Steve

I believe the rear DVD system in US model is different from Aussie model though. Here is my remote control. There's no such a button called video !

I guess that's why there is no video feeding to the rear monitor...even there is a harness inside.

Hi Steve ( and anyone in US has this model with rear DVD system) !

Can you confirm that when you feed the Video to the aux input at the back, it WILL FEED the signal to the rear monitor when you hit the video button on the remote ? Also please take a photo of your remote control so I can see the different please.
Many thanks
There is another button next to the DVD/CD button called video. Not feeling well otherwise I'd go out and take a picture. Your remote is missing a button.
