2006 Tribeca with 180K miles has been a workhorse but started to have a significant oil leak - like all the oil drains out kinda leak. Local mechanic who we trust looked at it and thinks its the timing cover and/or gasket and its a lot of work to get in there and see what's up / fix it. Ballpark estimate is $2000-2500 which, sentimental value aside, is probably getting close what the car is worth. Was planning to get a second opinion but hoping to get some advice. Does that seem reasonable - I live in Seattle where everything costs more but seemed pricey. Any advice appreciated.

I would call around and get quotes on replacing the timing chains and water pump. I would think if it is leaking that bad it would more likely be a crank seal. But if you are pulling the timing cover I would replace those items as well.
