a bit curious. For example, I was just interested in determining the width of the Tribeca so I looked it up. According to various sites, including the brochure, the width of the '08 is 88.8 inches, but that includes the mirrors themselves. These figures would be taken from data supplied by Subaru.

But nearly all specs for other makers' cars are without the mirrors, & even on the Outback it is calculated or measured at 69.6 inches, w/o mirrors. However again, the Impreza & the Forester are now shown as with mirrors.

Don't know which method is more useful, seeing as mirrors can these days be folded in when necessary. It just makes the car seem wider - bigger? - than it is. Seems to me the width with mirrors is superfluous, even misleading when roughly assessing comparative interior volume.

Or is it? Which method is do you prefer?

I agree...stating the width with mirrors does not seem right to me, and is probably just to make the car seem bigger for marketing purposes.
