Just purchased my first Subaru, an '06 Tribeca 5-seater with about 80k miles. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a list of general issues to watch out for. I've searched here and a couple other forums with no luck on any sort of "list" of known issues.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

hopefully you have a service list that is current, if not I would bring all of the service's up to date....ie all the fluid and filter changes, check the brake pads,etc.......80K is not a lot of miles on these cars if properly maintained....

The service is up to date. I have purchased cars in the past with prevalent issues to watch out for. Seeing as I cannot find any consistency with reports mechanical issues, I'll take that as a "no" there is no master list of things to watch out for.

My only issue right now is a tire that either has a flat spot from sitting or the wheel is out of balance.

Actually there are a few seemingly common issues based on anecdotal reports on the forum, which other folks might add to or modify:

Front sway bar bushing lifespan
Rear hatch rattles (TSB)
Rear seat rattles (TSB)
Torque converter issues (maybe addressed in '08?)
Hard shifts when cold (maybe just how the drivetrain is programmed to get things up to temperature sooner?)
Dash rattle
Headlight lifespan

Mine has a whine (seemingly the transmission) at 65-66 mph, but I've only heard of one other Tribeca with the same issue.

I'm getting the tranny serviced to hopefully get rid of the hard shift into 2nd when cold. Little over 100 bucks for some piece of mind from a tranny specialist I trust.
