My wife calls me from work today and says that on the way to work, the brake light on the dash would flicker a couple of times and then go off for a while, and then flicker, and then off, etc, etc, etc.

I think it might be low brake fluid, but not sure as I can't see the car. She will look at it at lunch time and call me back.

Could this be anything else?

low level is most likely reason as you said. i wouldn't do anything else until you check the level.

It was what I figured, a little low on fluid. Guess it'll be time to replace pads soon.

How many miles do you get between replacing pads? Any "better" than OEM pads available???

Pad mileage really depends on your driving style. Living in the city with a lot of stop and go traffic will wear them out a lot sooner than someone that mostly does highway driving. it's really hard to say. Check how much pad is left that's the best thing to do. I'm betting there aren't any aftermarket pads avaliable unless the pads are the same as say a legacy.
