Does this car really require hi-test? What will happen if you use regular gas??

My wife mistakenly put regular gas in the Tribeca the other day and I noticed a difference in off the line accelaration right away. I ran just OK but was a little sluggish. I have retured to premium.
It's suggested but not required like the turbo motors. tlctribeca found out why :) The ECU will adjust to the grade.

I only use Premium for that reason. Definitely notice the difference in off-the -line performance.

We're gonna run premium until it gets expensive. As of now, we're running it on 93 octane b/c that is what the local Shell station has. I'm contemplating running 89, but haven't gotten around to it.
a subaru tech friend of mine said that he has a couple of customers that run 89 octane in their b9's and get better gas milage than with 93. i tried it for a couple of tanks and the pickup and gas milage got worse. i switched back to 93 and it is much better. i get about 16mpg city and 24mpg highway. what does everybody else average? j/c.
IDK the true gas mileage, but the display says I'm averaging ~19mpg. I know it's not the true MPG, but I'm sure it's something close.
My display says I'm averaging 19mpg as well. Not bad for all wheel drive

Yeah and at 19mpg, it's mostly city and minimal highway. So I think it's pretty good.
my mpg readout on the dash is about 1 to 2mpg higher than it actually is unless im driving on the highway then it is dead on. i check my gas milage at every fill-up. i dunno why, i just got in the habit of it. you guys get pretty good gas milage for city
We get about 20MPG on the car that has 1600 miles on it. My LGT gets 24 MPG on average, so I think Beca with two more cylinders and much more weight to haul does just well.

And yes, I do fill all our cars with 93 gasoline. Was doing same with all our cars, old and new. The 91 Civic 5MT that i had for 5 years was performing quite differently on 93 compared to 89. Plus I like the feeling of treating my cars right.:)

I put the cheapest stuff I can find for my 96 Civic and I've never had a problem with it. I've never put 93 in it, so I can't really comment if it would run any better. Even in my 04 Civic, I still put cheap 87 in and no worries yet.

When I run 89 I get poor gas milage, too. I'll run 89 in the winter at times (when the prices go way up at times). But my B9 is very happy on 93.

My trip computer shows around 17-18 mpg in the city and get close to 23 mpg on 2 hour trips. I'm a bit heavy footed, too.

What's the point of having a decent engine if you can't have fun from time to time? ;)
I average about 20mpg I think, I know I get about 320-350miles to a tank. We are mixed city/highway. I always put mid-grade in it. 89 octane that has E-10 ethanol.

That's better than I get! I usually get around 260-280/tank (city). I run 93 in warm weather and 89 in cold.

yea I've been pretty impressed with it. I've owned it a year now and I can't say I'd rather own any other suv. Best suv for the money and all the capabilities. It saved my ass last winter. I'm taking a 1000mile road trip this christmas and I can't wait to see how it does. I've heard that it will get like 25-26mpg on a road trip averaging about 70-75mph. That will be nice. Almost what my cobalt gets. lol.
