I have a 2006 limited tribeca. It makes a knocking sound when I apply the breaks at lower speeds (it is a repetitive knocking sound, knock-knock-knock-knock, from the front end). I can reproduce the sound (single knock) occasionally going over bumps, but not always. The sound does not occur when turning. Also, I recently had the 60K service and replaced the bushings. The knocking sound started after the service.

Hey!
its your struts or your front sway bar...common problem that happends alot on subarus i heard...and the Tribeca...also on Mercedes...anyway...bring it to your dealer or acutually..i thought it was my sway bar and had the replacced but it was actually the struts but i never got around to getting them done and the sound just went away after a while...good luck!

Sounds like the steering rack might be loose if they replaced the bushings on that. Also, if they replaced the lower control arm bushings, and didn't tighten everything back up properly, that would definitely cause a knock/tapping sound. Did they do anything to the ball joint?

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. Just an update, I took the car to the local dealership (Premier Subaru in Branford CT) and drove around with their best mechanic. Upon return he quickly identified the problem as a broken pitching stopper. It was repaired today and on the short drive home I did not here the knocking sound.

Subaru Tribeca front end Knocking sound

I have 2008 Subaru Tribeca Ltd. I have had the knocking sound in the front end of the car since I bought it two years ago. Two dealers have found it to be "normal"..
I have owned many vehicles including SUV's, Have never had any of them do this. I would have expected more from a top of the line vehicle.:(

You already started a thread about this so keep the talk there, otherwise people will think you are a TROLL even if you are not.

I and a few others have given you the BEST advice there.

My 07 had the same problem. I changed out the front sway bar bushings ($7-$14 each depending on dealer). Took about 15 mins per side. Fixed the problem.

Greetings! This is my first posting. Glad I found this site!

This is an older thread, I see. I just picked up a 2007 3.0L Tribeca from the original owner. only 55K on it and still had the original tires on it. Took her for a spin and still has the get up and go of a car with only 55K on it but the knock in the front is pretty bad.

Front Right side knocks when going over bumps and occasionally gentle dips in the road. Also noticed that the left side is gradually knocking (or middle?) as well. I found a missing bolt on the giant plastic/rubber brush guard (?) on the bottom, but I don't think thats just it. CV Boots are still on, no grease loss/spray, but the original owner told me he took it to....get this.... "Honest Mechanics" and they "sprayed something on it to get the sound to go away".

He said this did the trick for a little while "but the sound is back now"

The knock reminds me of bad CV joints but everywhere I look, this seems to be a common thing with the Tribecas?

Any ideas?
