Fog Light Lenses

6625 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Magic Marker
I've recently noticed several stress cracks in both lenses on my fog lights. One looks to be holding water too. I took my 2006 B9 into the dealer and they claimed they were hit with something... Go figure... This car has never been off pavement or in any type of accident. The dealer would be happy to replace them for approx. $250. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this something that I can buy and replace myself? Has anyone had similar issues with their fog light lenses?

Any help would certainly be appriciated.

Thanks,

If you look at this here:

You can get the PN's and order it from an on line place and do the work yourself.

Price is around 65.00 USD for just the lens from what I can tell

This is how you get it out:

Still, I'd get a closer look and see if you can find an impact spot where something hit it. It's not unusual for a lamp to get wacked while going down the road. I use some rockblocker film on my lamps but they don't have any for the B9 yet :( If you can't find a spot where it was hit then I say ask to see the service manager and have him look. Maybe you can get it done because they are defective.

Thank you for the helpful advice and "how to" information.

After a couple of emails to Subaru regarding my cracked fog lenses, I finally got a response. They contacted my dealer and the "brand new" service rep remembered me from another dealership where he had worked, and said, "sure, we'll fix those for her for free". Hmmm....I'm beginning to wonder if you have to know someone, or if this fix applies to all Tribeca owners...

My advice is the same that others gave me: email or call Subaru and have them pursue it. There IS a service bulletin out on these, and it should apply to everyone. Good luck!

I have the same thing - on the right foglight - cracks. Who did you contact at Subaru? I need to have it replaced.
Our 07 doesn't have any cracks, but the lens is hazing/ deteriorating. I took a closer look and the lense is plastic; not glass. I guess that is why they are hazing up on me. I already told my dealer that I want them replaced. I haven't had them do the official write up yet. I'm willing to bet that Subaru figured out that glass lenses are a bad choice on B9's.

I looked at my 08 Impreza fogs and those are glass. I already had those covered in 3M film. Actually I had the entire front end covered in 3M's film.
we have an 06 and when we bought used one was cracked and the dealer replaced it before we bought it for free. A few weeks later I noticed that the other one had hairline cracks in it I didnt notice. I think its the position of the lenses and the type of glass they use that contribute to it being easy to break.
On our 97 OB, the lenses are thicker and more robust... in addition they put that plastic guard around them.
same here, one is completely cracked, another one has hair-thin cracks. I do not think it is "stress" cracks. They look like temp related - heat thats what does it. Subaru should've used glass or heat resistant plastic on those, but they went the "cheap" way. Dealer said they are replacing completely cracked but will wait on another one so I have to go back 2 months later again for the replacement of another one - this is stupid! I'll have to waste one more day while waiting for it there.

I had our driver side fog replaced under warranty. It wasn't cracked, but began hazing up and discoloring.
