We're looking for a B9T 5PL to replace my wife's Forester. Since the Forester is our primary tow vehicle for our utility trailer and our Let's Go Aero AT Sport Trailer, we will want the Tribeca to perform that same role. Hopefully, with a little more oomph and ride with its higher overall weight and trailer rating, not that the Forester is a slouch, it just doesn't have a whole lot of pull off the line until it reaches cruise speed, then it's fine.

My question is has anyone self-installed the Subaru B9T tow hitch and transmission cooler? If so, was it involved, particularly the cooler part. I've put other Subaru hitches on with no issues so I'm not as much concerned about that part. Dealer wants $200 to do the install and, other than the cooler, it's probably only 30 minutes with air tools to put the hitch itself on.

Peaty - are you planning this install for your's or did it come equipped with it?

Thanks in advance.

I'm looking into the oil cooler but not the hitch at this time. The hitch is easy from what I can see. The oil cooler is another story. From the Service manual and from what I've gathered asking around. You need to remove the front bumper to get the oil cooler in. That for me sounded like a major PITA to do. I'm wondering if you really need to do that or not. sometimes there are ways around such things. But not haveing the actual parts in front of me it's hard to say for sure.

If anyone with the oil cooler installed could snap a few pics to show us that would be cool. I'd have a better idea how hard it would be to do.

Your going to have to pull the front bumper off to get the cooler installed. It really isnt as tough as it may seem. I have installed many on Honda Pilots and have looked over the instructions for the Tribeca, looks pretty similar.

I did instal the tranny oil cooler, there is no need to remove the bumper. I have details on Scoobymods but the site is having problems due to the net provider :(
