I've had the B9 for awhile, wife and i dont have kids, so we dont use the DVD that much, however one day we were playing w/ it, and it seems you can only use the remote to watch dvd's? is this true?

also has anyone looked at their radio lately? well, i noticed that, how in the hell can you get an aftermarket stereo into the B9. i mean, its built into the dash, just wondering, not very smart atleast from a customers point of view. i'm wondering if any aftermarket companies make a headunit for the B9.

Unfortunetely, there are several design drawbacks of the DVD player such as:

1. Remote-only controls SUCK!!! At lest give the basics such as play, pause, and stop. There needs to be AT LEAST a "Pause" button for when the driver needs to get the kids attention.

2. Many of the buttons on the remote don't always function as indicated. This is weird since the DVD remote was designed for the player.

3. Remote uses those annoying cell batteries which are harder to come by. I would've preferred a bigger remote that would allow us to use good old fashion AAA's.

4. There should be some sort of auto-play button that will automatically play the movie when the menu FINALLY comes up. I can't even count how many times I sat there wating for all of the previews (many unskippable on older DVD's) to go away and get to the menu so I can start a movie for the kids and get going.

5. NOT DVD-R/+R compatible? That sucks for home-made movie lovers...

6. No Blu-Ray or HD-DVD options yet? DVD-Audio? ANYTHING besides just regular DVD?

7. Why are movies played in 2.0 stereo only? Why not have full surround sound such as DTS/Doly Digital? This could've been expanded to the regular stereo as well as they are intertwined. The Tribeca IS a premium upscale vehicle, right?

8. How about a multidisc changer? At least 2 or 3 so there isn't so much stopping the car to change discs for the kids.

9. Some home DVD players have a mode called something like "Night Mode" where when used, balances/flattens all audio levels so there are no spikes or valleys in the sound. That way, sudden loud sounds don't startle anyone. For example, when multiple kids are in the car, and they are using the main speakers, it really sucks when a movie has a ton of quiet dialog and suddenly a loud boom occurs as the scene shifts to action. Startling the driver is NEVER a good thing.

great info. i love the dvd player but like you said, there are a few quirks i could live without.
I actually have had great success with home burned DVD's. In fact, I remove all that annoying stuff like menus and previews so it starts playing immediately.
