So in a nut shell, Im a little familiar with wiring, Take the rca cable with the red and white cut the ends off shove them into the back of the stock headunit as pictured in diagram, Buy the connector from radio shack splice the other end into the connector where the aux goes and ur 3.5mm wire goes into your phone or ipod?

Hey guys, I know this is no longer an active thread but my current radio connection is killing me. I tried to do the described steps today, but the audio did not switch to aux mode. I think my rca cable was too thin. Can you please explain a bit better what kind of cable I should solder to rca?

Just completed wiring up my wife's B9. Took maybe 2 hours. One piece of advice make sure you push the wires WAY into the connector. They have to pass through the plug and then into the socket, so just make sure you push them in really well.

Pin 13 should do it for you. Run a wire from there to one of the screws on the side of the HU. (Just run one of the side HU case screws out about 2 turns and run the ground wire from pin 13 under it and tighten it back up.)

So...is this the ONE? I trying to do this and spent a good amount of time following instructions in a previous post to no avail (duh). I'm going to give this a shot. If love to know a better way to connects the wires to the harness. Just showing them in is a bit strange.

I am getting around to install the auxiliary input, and have this important question: if it is connected as a balanced source, per the schematics cited by SVXdc, is it true that no interference occurs with the input device being powered/charged through one of the 12V outlets in the center console?

I did hook it up similar to cansubie after reviewing the schematic. The differential inputs should be hooked up a certain way to eliminate the alternator whine due to ground loops. This is how I hooked it up:

Pin     Connection
6       Right channel signal
7       Left channel signal
13      Connect to ground (on pin 12)
15      Right channel shield
16      Left channel shield

My pin 14 was high impedance. The model number is CQ-EF8560X. The schematic posted shows nothing on this pin so that makes sense.

The shields of the coax cable should only be tied on the end where the aux jack is. The other end of the coax shield should be connected to pins 15 or 16 and not tied together; although you can tie these here, it's not as ideal.

I stole some pins off an old Subaru harness I have. They weren't exactly the same but they locked into the connector shell and fit the pins just fine. It's not the same as the old 14 pin connector, the pins are about half the size.

I mounted an 1/8" female jack in the center console between the two 12V lighter outlets. The center blanking plate pops out and it's easy to drill a hole and put a panel mount jack there. This is the jack I used:

Yours is a 2007 model, correct? It has an auxiliary jack from the factory. I compared the wiring diagrams between '06 and '07. There's not quite enough information to replicate '07 wiring on a '06, because it is not clear how the cable shield is connected at the radio on a 2007 model. It is seen that the shield is indeed connected to something unlike on a '06, because it is used to complete the switch circuit to enable the auxiliary input. It's different anyway because 2007+ has separate input connections for front and rear audio sources, whereas on a 2006 one must use the "rear" input. There could even be an error in the 2007 FSM for all I know, because it shows the I26 connector as having 20 pins, vs. 16 pins for 2006.

I always thought a cable shield is simply connected to ground... I haven't replaced screws from my H/U replacement a few weeks back, so I'll pull things apart tonight and see if I can provide any insight on pin 14.

So I went through with the project. A factory audio terminal has been installed (a huge rip-off at around $50 after shipping). I did locate a relatively inexpensive source (under $20 delivered) for a wiring harness with pins that insert into the 16-position plug at the back of the radio. It is a Hyundai/Kia jumper harness 916813K021, available through koraps.com. It even comes with a 16-pin female plug identical to that on a Tribeca, unfortunately except for different position of keyways on the short sides of the connector body. Also had to purchase an Impreza auxiliary input harness to get the 6-pin plug for the terminal unit, that's another $30+.
The connection to the head unit was made with a two-channel balanced cable (two shielded twisted pairs), with the shield bonded to the common (negative) side of the left/right channels at the input jack and to the radio's metal case at the other end.
I also have sufficient parts left over to fabricate a plug-and-play harness, with an aftermarket jack, to provide to somebody for a very moderate sum just to partially offset the cost of the project. I will even pre-install a 3.5 mm jack in the factory blank cap that used to cover the location of the aux. terminal.

Update 5/30/16: connecting the shield of the balanced cable to the L/R signal ground at the input end caused a ground loop through the unbalanced cord with 3.5 mm audio jacks running between the input terminal and the audio source. As usual, this would show when the MP3 device is being charged and the charger is plugged into an on-board outlet. Long story, but the proper approach is to treat the input connection in the console as an interface between a balanced input and an unbalanced output. The easiest way is to connect the shield only at the head unit, which worked fine. What was done in the end was to couple the shield of the input cord to the shield of the balanced cable through a parallel RC circuit (100 Ohm, 10 pF), another known solution.

1½ years after the last post, this is still a relevant topic. A month ago I bought a 2006 SBT9 Base with 203000 kms on it. It is my back and forth to work beater.

I started digging about the internet for this very topic, realizing that it had to be doable. I arrived here which confirmed my belief.

At my local electronics store (SAYAL), I bought a slide-in and clip 3.5 mm female stereo jack and a male-to-female stereo cable. I cut off the female end and stripped back the 3 (RED/WHITE/YELLOW) wires. I soldered and heat shrunk the three wires to the jack and tested them for correct balance. Once confirmed, I cut the male end of the cable. I drilled out the centre console spot and slid the wires and jack into the hole, clipping the jack in super snug. I fished the wires forward and worked them into the removed connector. I simply went RED/WHITE/SKIP/YELLOW.

I pushed the wires through the lower hole on the connector, then flipped it back into the upper area of the same pin section. I took a piece of 18 gauge wire jacket with the wire removed and pushed it in the wire insert side to hold the wire snug which it does.

This set up ran my Sirius just fine. It would not run Spotify on my Android device. To rectify that, I ran a piece of 18 gauge from the ground to a screw on the side of the unit. That grounded my Android, which opened the signal. Easy-peasy.

just bought an 06 tribeca... it has the rear dvd. is there any benefit to hooking it through that or am i better through the front harness? is there anyway that it will auto switch from the radio to aux when i get an incoming call (will have blue tooth adapter plugged into the 3.5mm)

I just bought a 06 Tribeca with Nav and rear entertainment system, I had a hard time with the aux input until I seen that my particular setup has two aux inputs. pin 7 is rear aux left, pin 8 is rear aux right. pin 16 is front aux left, pin 15 front aux right, ping 14 is shield. grounded pin 13 to get front aux to trigger on demand. cut pin 5 and added a toggle switch to cut the signal from the rear entertainment system (rear aux). as It would interfere with my front aux.
