I would pop the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand. Any roughness, replace them. I know they said they did it recently, but...

I agree with tom ,check the pulleys by hand by taking the belt off ,i have been using a Goodyear Gatorback belt for 3 years and is dead silent so far regardless of the weather ...Gerry

So, my alternator is gone at 72k for my 07 Tribeca. Calling around for parts and 2 dealers quoted me $480 and $585 plus labor.



Quick searches yield $180 tops.

Any reason for huge markup?

My alternator shot craps, unknown mileage as it was a JDM swap with the engine.
It was making a whistling sound sporadically. I didn’t know where it was coming from so I just drove it till it died. It was a bad bearing in the alternator.

I bought a brand new OEM alternator after reading these threads. I had a private shop install it for me. I think it’s going to cost me about 900 bucks out the door.

I would’ve enjoyed installing it myself, however when it died I was 160 miles from nowhere in the Flint Hills Kansas in an ice storm!

Hello Jefferson: I did not check on replacing the bearing. I never saw the core. Had the car towed to the shop. “ just fix it”
Shop is a family business, I trust them to treat me right.
