My 2008 Subaru Tribeca 3.6L has a steady engine light on, steady traction control light on and a flashing green cruise light. I interrogated the codes and it shows P0014, C0541 and C0242. I have checked the fuel cap and did an oil/filter change. I removed the negative terminal for a good 10 mins but the fault is still displayed. I have 175,000km on the clock and the car drives well. Does anyone have a fix?

I went for a long drive after engine oil and filter change. At the next start the lights remained off. I made sure that when I topped up the oil I got it reading on the full dot. Fingers crossed it doesn’t come back on.

Now I’m getting the same lights again but different fault codes. P0500 and C0241. Not quite sure what they mean. I’m also getting an Err SS display. I’ve cleaned the front two Speed Sensors but the faults came back. I’m going to clean the aft two speed sensors next and see what happens. Does anyone know what the C0241 means?

the codes are universal, a quick google search will typically tell you what any of them mean. The ones you listed could all be related to a faulty speed sensor, which is a good place to start. If you can get them out (one at a time) and clean the rust and metal debris off them without using a magnet, they may still work. If you notice wear on the magnet then it could be rubbing and indicate that the wheel bearing in that hub may be going.

Actually - I wouldn’t trust “universal google search” and use FSM. Especially, because ABS/VDC errors are a bit “special” and googling might not help because of this.
