Hello,

I have an 08 Tribeca and when stopped there is a rattle noise from the dash, sounds like a geiger counter (picked up this comment from a previous thread). The noise only occurs when stopped in drive mode, sometimes in neutral or park, but not when driving. Any rattle is annoying particularly after thr rear seats and hatch rattles, both of which have been resolved, well at least better than they were.
The dealer said they didnt hear anything but I suspect they didnt bother looking as well.
Any idea's on the rattle?
Thanks

Take the tech for a ride with you. That is how I pinpointed to them when I had a dash rattle.

Agree. Definitely take the tech for a ride. I took my 08 in for a couple different noises, both of which the tech said he could not duplicate (typical). I've taken the tech for 2 rides since and demonstrated them. They've now had my car for 2 weeks and can't figure out what the problem is. A representative from Subaru came to the dealership today to assist...haven't heard back yet. But at least they're working on it :)

my opinion,
you could fix yourself(at least investigate) and save numerous hours at the dealership.
i totally understand that you just spent $40k on a new vehicle, but its a fact that ALL vehicle will have some sort of "rattle" at some time in its lifetime

Don't know if you ever tracked down your rattle, or not. I was having an issue and I thought it was coming from the air vent on the driver's side (far left). I was pounding around and it turned out to be the trim on the left A-pillar. I took it to the dealer and rather than try to work on it, they replaced the whole trim with a new one. No more rattle.

I had the infamous geiger counter squeak (not truly a rattle) and was able to have it fixed after taking a ride with a conscientious tech. I had ordered an inexpensive stethoscope from one of those Chinese discount gadget web sites, and let the tech use it to isolate the source of the noise. He took off the dash cover, tightened everything up, used insulation padding and shims to prevent movement and now the dash no longer annoys me. The entire cost was covered by the manufacturer's 3 year warranty.
