About a year and a half ago I traded some design work for a 07 Tribeca 7 Pass with an engine knock. I purchased an engine and transmission (40,000 miles) and installed it no problem, Runs amazing, BUT it was shifting hard 2-3rd gears a couple times then it would shift normal. Had a transmission shop check the trans, no metal, obviously, the fluid was new, it checked out AOK, Dealer thought it was the TCM, flashed it and it got better but not perfect. A new one is $700+. Another idea was the Speed Sensor and or the Engine Control Module.
Here is the rub, apparently, Subaru does EVERYTHING from the VIN, but as this is a JDM it could have come from 1-4 different model Subarus and 3-4 different years. SO they are hesitant to sell me a TCM for a Tribecca because it might not work.
About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer, so money is tight and a struggle to work on it.
My questions are:
Any suggestions repair wise?
Anyone want to buy a nice 7 Pass, Tribeca?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Mark

It sounds like you have the common sticking valve body/solenoid. Did you keep the old transmission? You may only need to swap that.

What fluid did you use? OEM for the 5eat is Subaru ATF-HP if memory serves.

No, I no longer have the old tranny. Yes, I used the appropriate Subaru Trans Fluid. I have not heard about the sticky solenoid/valve issue.
Thanks, I will look into that.
