I got a B9 2006 and got some issues with the paint, my color is gold and it has some white shadows on the paint. The dealer inspect the car and mention that it was a paint problem so they re paint my B9.
Any other B9 owner w/ the same problem?

Great to hear that the dealer gave into a repaint easily. Our 2007 paint seems to be ok.

How about anyone with small rust spots? (I'm talking tiny pin head size, but still there nonetheless) Would these be covered under warranty?

Our paint is ok still. Jonnyk...we do have one small rock chip that has a spec of rust, I gotta get it touched up ASAP!
If it really bothers you or is bad, you can try the corrosion resistance portion of the warranty.

i have the champane gold as well. After cleaning the car today i noticed the shadows too. so i drove to the nearest pepboys got the turtle wax ice liquid clay and the liquid paste polish thinking it may come off but no. i even asked a friend for megs clay didn't work either. i will be going to the dealership tomorrow and see if this is a flaw on their paint and maybe get a free repaint aswell.:(

Evove_b9,
Just talk w/ the local Subaru Dealer and the got another Gold B9 (2006) w/ the same issues. Dealer will repaint entire B9 and will sent paint samples to Factory in order to RCA the issue. I sure hope is a paint/primer issues but you never know until the root cause analysis is complete.

I'm noticing some slight and unexpected oxidation occuring on top of my spoiler. I wash and wax and everything else seems okay (minus a couple of odd scratches by apparantly a dog or cat jumping up against the door). I have an '06 B9 Tribeca in Atlantic Blue Pearl.

I have the same problem, I'm taking mine in to the dealer this Saturday to get it checked out. I spoke with a Subaru of America Rep and they stated its not a recall but they are repainting any Champagne Gold tribecas with ghosting problems. Also those that have had a repaint done already, did they do the entire car or just the panels that had ghosting?

Jonnyk, I too have small pin size rust spots on my white '07 B9. Haven't been able to get rid of them. I have seen rust spots on many cars before but it usually comes off with a claybar and polish. Most of the time rust spots, if not from stone chips, come from rail dust, hot metalic particles released onto cars when tranported by train, or by hot meatilc particle released by your brakes. These particle are only on the surface and these seem to be coming through the paint.

I guess this is why the gold was discontinued?

I have the same issue Gold 2006 - ghosting on the hood. Honestly, I do not want to repaint the car as they never can do a good enough job... I think I should decide what to do before the warranty expires...

I'm just curious, but does someone think they can take a picture that captures the issue? Sorry to hear about this prob...paint obviously isn't an easy fix. Just curious what's going on. TIA.

Did they do nice job? What did they remove from the car to paint?
Are they actually painting the cars or just doing a clear coat? I just ask because it seems that its just a clear coat problem.
Andrey

It IS the paint problem and not clearcoat. They need to sand down to the paint and re-apply paint. I was told that it was partially bad batch of pain from the manufacturer here in US and not fully "baked" or dry surface before the clearcoat application at the factory.

:( Take it back to dealer and ask for a new paint job, this is a Subary MFG defec. For the time w/o your car you should get a loaner from the dealer.
This issue was document back to factory in Japan so Subaru know about this.
Once you get the B9 paint make sure you have evidence of the ghosting areas and take picture before/after. Make sure that it will be no cost to you since it is a mfg process deviaton, not relate to use by customer.

yeah im going to take it to the dealer soon. I heard you take it to the dealer and they take pics of the ghosting and then send it to SOA.

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. WE BOUGHT IT USED AT ONE YEAR OLD AND HAVE PUT 39k MILES ON IT SINCE. TOOK IT TO THE SUBARU DEALERSHIP WE BOUGHT IT AT AND THEY MENTIONED THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. THEY TOOK PICTURES TO SEND TO SOA TO SEE IF IT WOULD BE A "GOOD WILL" PROCESS. AFTER READING ALL THESE REPLIES THEY BETTER COVER AND APPROVE THIS WHOLE PAINT FIASCO!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO PROCEED BECAUSE I FEEL THE DEALSHIP IS UNAWARE OF THIS PAINT PROBLEM.

hey, what dealer is this? maybe they didnt, but atleast they took care of you. but dont take any crap from them.. make them pay for ALL and make sure they send it to a good shop ofcourse. ive talked to several people who have gotten it done and it came out great and Subaru paid the costs; so it is possible and others dealers worked with SOA to have it done

I have a 2006 B9, in the "Ghosty Gold".
Bought it used January of this year and started having major ghosting issues appear shortly after that. After reading here and other sooby forums I started working with SOA via my local dealership.
Background:
Purchased the car USED with ~30k Miles.
No Extended Warranty
Not Purchased at a Subaru Dealership
After four months of haggling with SOA they finally agreed to repaint my entire car, and did it well. At the time I drove it into the shop I had 53K Miles and 80% of the car was gosting badly.
If you are working with SOA just realize that they will always lowball offer you first and call it "Goodwill". I had 3 offers, 25%, 50%, 75% before they finally broke down and did 100%. Keep strong and don't give up the good fight.

In my case, the auto shop painted my car with star brite to polish it perfectly. I never encountered such issue but I guess you should be thankful because they repainted your car.

Mainly on the bumper, but I see the spots on all four doors and quarter panels....small pin like rust spots, with two pronounced spots where paint has fallen off. The vehicle has been in garages since I bought it.

My vehicle is the ivory white - I have seen some of the discussions regarding the paint issues on the gold B9's, but this appears to be different. I started noticing it about 9 months ago on the rear bumper (particualrly below where the hatch closes). I washed the car last weekend and noticed several spots starting to appear on the doors and quarter panels. Really unfortunate to have these issues on a car that has been well maintained and is only in its 5th year.
