Poll: Do you think the 5-Passenger Tribeca makes any sense?

Post your opinion and feel free to explain why.

Personally, I think its dumb for multiple reasons:

1. Subaru already has plenty of 5 passsenger vehciles. The Tribeca is supposed to differentiate itself by being a 7 passenger vehicle. Offering a 5-seater seems to send a mixed message.

2. The 5-seater only comes in a base model which is not upgradeable. Offering factory upgrade packages to this model would be a nightmare for dealerships and confusing to the consumer.

3. A base 7-passenger starts at the same price (give or take a few hundred bucks or so) and you still get the added flexibility for extra passenger hauling, even if you rarely need it!

4. As mentioned in #3, the third row is good for added flexibility. For the idiots out there who say "But I need the extra cargo space", I say "Simply fold the third row into the floor and you now have the same cargo space as the 7-passenger you dummy!!". The under-floor cargo space in the 5-passenger is useless as it offers no real verticle space for cargo as the floor board is in the way.

I think it's a viable option, while there are other Subaru's with 5 seats, they don't have the options and level of refinement as the B9 has. It's never a bad thing to have more choices :)

i got the 7 passenger limited over the 5 passenger BECAUSE it was the same price, and plus on the 7p, we got a $1000 trade in allowance.

5 passenger only comes as a base model? We have a limited 5 pass. with nav. In addition, under floor storage is useful for us. We store an umbrella there plus a vehicle safety kit. At this stage my wife, 6 month old daughter, and I have no need for the 7 passenger.

Again, you could've had the 7-seater for about the same price. Why not have the flexibility?

With the 5 pass I don't have to drive my uncle, cousins, etc. to places like the Chicago auto show. We make my dad drive his 7 pass explorer. I save on gas and downtown stress. So in my case added flexibility is no good.

An Explorer? Perhaps you mean you help your dad push it to the side of the road when trying to get to the show?

Hey, with a 7-passenger Tribeca, you could always fold down the third row and if anyone asks about additional seating you could just play dumb!

I don't know anyone that's short enough to fit into the rear seats comfortably.

The seven passenger stickers about $1800 more than the 5. Subaru is selling them at about the same price according to this thread. Which means to me that nobody is willing to pay for the seven seater.

I believe that Subaru's production estimates were 4 7s for each 5. When an outback owner looks at the third row he scratches his head and says "where's the room?".

Dealer here in Houston sell both for the same price....like i said in my previous thread, by buying the 7 passenger tribeca, he gave us $1000 trade in allowance as well. honestly, i only bought the 7 passenger to save money, if the 5 pasenger was $1800 less, i would have gotten the 5p.

1. Your poll options seem biased towards a 7 passenger.

2. I have a 5 passenger limited, the 7 passenger was $1500+ more, not quite (almost the same as you state)
Almost is a relative term based on your finances.

3. 3rd row seats are pretty much useless for anyone with legs.
Car seat is not suggested to go back there, and even my nephew 6 years old was uncomfortable back there
and getting him in and out (at the showroom) was not easy.

4. It is well known that the 7 passenger is a sell point as in most vehicles in this class,
there is no extended wheel base so you get no more room.
So while you can haul technically 7 passengers, two of them dwarfs or "torso-up's",
the second row passengers will suffer on leg room.

5. The undermat stoarge area, gives two sections as opposed to one.
I use them both (tripod, umbrella, tools, flares...) And with the 5 passenger
I get full use of my rubber cargo mat which maintains my interior.

The 7 passenger was about $2,000 more here. We had a 7 passenger Honda Pilot EX-L that we traded in on it. The third row seats were used one time in the three years we had it. I didn't see a need to pay more money for a feature that we wouldn't use. I also liked the extra storage the 5 seater has and I got a cargo tray that fits the entire area.

Different strokes for diffrent folks.

It is a waste of $$ if you expect to carry adults. But, for kids it is a good idea.

I wanted the 5 passenger model, especially after seeing the 3rd row(what a joke) in the 7 passenger. My kids are grown and my wife has a 7 passenger Town and Country minivan, which has a decent size 3rd row. I also understand that the 2nd row won't slide back as far in the 7 passenger model, so as not to cut off legs of 3rd row passengers. Plus I like the added storage compartments and the price is about $1000 less.

We're odering the 7 passenger. But not because of the flexibility. Wife and I are retired, kids live far away, we live in a remote area and almost never carry passengers. I can't think of a single occasion in the last 8 years where we have used the 3rd row seat in our (soon to be gone) Navigator. But rear air only comes in the 7P model & that is important to us (we often carry our dogs in the back of our vehicle).

Yes it will. There's a safety lever on the side to slide the 2nd row back all the way.

I like the idea of offering a 5 passenger model. I currently own a Pilot which I plan to trade in for an '08 Tribeca. In the 2 years I've had the Pilot I've only used the 3rd row once. In addition to weighing less than the 7 seater it also gives you more storage space. My only wish is that they offered rear seat A/C on the 5 passenger model.

This was the only compelling reason for me to get the 7, but did not think it was enough to pay the extra 2k here.

I do not think it is safe to put children in the third row at all.

On the contrary I would say does it make any sense to have a 7 passenger? I guess for the person with little kids (and by little I mean 3 feet tall) that doesn't want a mini van it does.
The Tribeca isn't big enough IMO to constitute a 7 passenger model.
