Aftermarket windshield wipers

From the looks of things, it will not be possible to install those aftermarket wipers....the ones that are frameless....called reflex wipers here in Canada. The attaching mechanism looks oem to me and thus just allows rubber replacement. Am I wrong on this?

I have not looked into it very closely but everytime I clean the windscreen; I can't help but think how much of a pain it's gonna be to take off the wipers and change them out. They are huge too. I like the holders themselves so I think I'll just get OEM replacement rubber bits, if that's possible. I've been using Aquapel (kind of like Rain-X but a lot longer lasting) which has been working well.

Actually, I've had the wipers off and they are very easy to get off. There's a slider mechanism that releases the wipers from the bulky wiper holders. Once off it would be very easy to switch out the rubber bits but due to the unique slider mechanism, I don't think it would be possible to use a different style/type of wiper.


I use Rain-x and find it doesn't last that well. Where can one get this aquapel? I find rain-x doesn't do well in the winter...how about aquapel?

I've been using Aquapel (kind of like Rain-X but a lot longer lasting) which has been working well.

It has been about 10 years since I have used rain-x. I liked how it makes rain move off the glass but I thought it degraded the rubber on the wiper blades and quit using it on the windshield. Have you experienced any damage to the rubber wiper blades from Aquapel?

I have not had any issues with rain-x or Aquapel doing anything to the wipers. I believe the heat and sun do most of the damage. Here in KS it gets very hot and it's sunny much of the time. I do take care to wipe down my wiper blades with the towel every time I clean the windscreen. It keeps the crud off that accumulates like dirt and road oil. It goes a long way to prevent the wipers from juddering and squeaking. I usually clean the windscreen with a paper shop towel and Stoner invisible glass then while the towel is still wet I run it along each blade. You'd be surprised how much crud comes off.

wow, factory wipers on the b9 are terrible. car only has 11K miles, past few weeks, houston has seen alot of rain. i must say, i cannot stand the rattle or the "wiping" sound the wipers make. it gets to the point i'd drive w/o them on. are they just dirty? should they be replaced?

Try cleaning the blades first, I've found sometimes a lot of road munge and oil from some cars can accumulate on the windscreen and the blades. Spray some invisible glass on a rag and wipe down the rubber blade surfaces and the windscreen. Sometimes you need to take drastic measures like using BonAmi on the windscreen to strip off heavy oil deposits. I got stuck behind some old car once and it just spewed oil all over the front of my car from the tail pipe. I had a heck of a time getting the glass clean :(

My right side wiper does not stay fully flush on the outer ends. Its fine for rain, but crud will not be wiped out if its at the ends of the wiper range. Almost as if the blade is a few inches too long.

So I can go to the dealer and tell them that the wipers are skipping and they'll change out the blades w/ no issues?
