I have an '06 B9. When I step on the brakes, the tail / brake lights are not functioning. The light bar at the top works, just not the lower tail / brake lights. The blinkers and back-up lights are fine, just not the brake lights.

What I have done:
1. Replace the brake lamps
2. Checked / replaced fuses in both engine and cabin
3. Replaced relay in engine fuse box.
4. Cussed profusely

I read on another forum that there is an issue with a ground wire in the headlight assembly comming loose which causes something like this. As a matter of fact, I have replaced both front headlamps within the last 2 months.

check the brake light switches located on the 'brake pedal'...when the high center brake lights were introduced back in the day, they are required to have 2 switches. One for the regular brake lights and a separate for the high middle one. So it seems your high middle one is ok, the reg may be jacked.????

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it must be the switch. Now for the next conundrum... Where is the damn switch?

So I have been looking around the brake pedal and around both sides of the firewall. The only thing that I can see for sure is the brake fluid sensor below the master cylinder. There don't seem to be any wires or anything electronic having to do with the brake pedal. Is it way up behind the dash maybe?
