Greetings all,
I am in the market to replace my old 4Runner with something a little newer. After much research, I have decided to go with an 08 Tribeca Limited. There are actually 2 locally that I am interested in, both near identical in options, color & mileage, 36k. Before committing to such a purchase, I thought I would reach out to this forum to see if there are any potential problems inherent to the 08 Limited models that I should look out for. Any insight you can give would be really apppreciated. Thanks

The wife unit has an 08 ltd and we are very happy with it! Sorry I have nothing negative to report!

Yeah they are horrible.
I had to replace the battery in my remote already. Geez.
Actually the 08's are still new enough that most things wont show up quite yet. Don't be afraid of it, like any manufacturer, there are quirks and things. But I would recommend one. This is my 4th Subaru.
My 08 only has 24K on it so far. I bet someone else on here has many more than that.
Buy the gold warranty if you are worried, and drive it.

These things are pretty solid...we have had only a few problems with our 06 in 4 yrs. A sensor went bad and threw a check engine light a few years ago. Front sway bar bushings have been replaced twice too...not a big deal though.

We have an '08 and couldn't be happier. No problems other then a minor repair covered under warranty.

Thanks all for the input. I bought the 08 Tribeca Limited 7 Pass w/Nav and after 1 1/2 days no problems so far, except that the steering wheel radio contols cannot jump to preset stations ?. Glad to part of the club.
there is a tsb out for the 08 tribecas for the rear seat and hatch rattle i would suggest to get checked out, that and the sway bar bushings are prone to prematurely wear for some reason.. other than that, and a rattle here and there ;) they're very solid cars.

yeah the rattle is the worst thing about the car..really the only problem..

Thanks for the insight. My other car is an 03 Mini Cooper S so I've become quite accustomed to rattles. Comparatively, the Tribeca seems as quiet as a church mouse.

thats great, but it is annoying..try avoiding pot holes and if it starts, straight to your dealer! but really its a great suv

the steering wheel radio contols cannot jump to preset stations ?.
Strange, as I believe that's the only tuning option that should work. There's another thread recently about someone wanting to use the left-hand thumb rocker switch to scan rather than the standard "jump through presets" mode it comes with.
I'd confirm that it actually won't jump through your presets, then if so...hightail it back to the dealer while you're still in your 30-day warranty period (or whatever your state allows.)

are the 08 limiteds still a good buy? I am looking at 08 limiteds with low 30's.
Thanks
the 08 limited are great buys. just watch out for the VDC recall and for rattles from the sunroof, hatch and the 2nd row seating.

Rattle in tailgate reduced with foam padding under plastic piece.
The dash creeks a little lately.
Other then that all ok.
We have 09 S.E. TRIBECA with 19,600 miles.
I like the stiffer steering wheel feel and nimble turning.
Acceleration is ok, but in an AWD not bad.

Here's another pre-buy questions for '08 Tribeca which I should have started here instead of on the journals' lounge..... there are also helpful feedbacks on this thread.
