How hard was your tail lights to tint? I like the look of that a lot. Any new pics of how the stereo install came out?

Tails are pretty easy to tint if you know how to spray paint, the key is being even, so try a few very light coats. Any blobs will light up darker so having patience and even spray pattern is important. just degrease them and you are ready to paint.

Stereo is still not installed, got other priorities.

so the kids are at grandma's for the summer this means i can tackle some unfinished business.
its been long overdue but i finally decided to finish the aftermarket HU.
first thing i checked was my cables, the biggest issue i had was the length of the ribbon cable in the panel, after long searches i finally found it, its a bit wider 30-pin instead of 18. but a little trimming with a razor and they work. Now i have 8 inches of play room instead of one.

next was my HU for preset issue that it has, unfortunately its broken, for whatever reason it looses presets, but not the time or my home address in the gps. figured it is what it is and bought a new sony, should be here pretty soon.

Today i pulled all the crap that was wired for clarion out of the car, gps antenna, and some harness pieces that i don't need anymore.

So once Sony arrives its just a matter of buttoning everything up. Like finding reverse lead in the console, and bypassing ground for video.

today had a bit more progress, after spending 40 minutes in search of reverse signal wire on the passenger side (which bulkhead harness has in plug B97) I gave up and went on to driver side that has a plug B90 with the same wire, took me maybe a minute to find it, now fishing the wire above pedal box isn't too fun but is just easier.
So pretty much I have all my car wiring ready for the new HU, which suppose to come in today in the mail.

For the first time i feel confident that this time around I actually may succeed lol.
All i have left is splice HU harness to the car plug, and make brackets/hangers for all the components to be secure inside the dash. I even have a heat gun for shrink wrapping, no more lighter and burnt smell. yay

Now i gotta figure out what color will work in the dash as the silver on the panel doesn't match rest of the plastic.
stay silver or go black? that is the question lol

The climate control is on (AUTO button lit up), but the three dials are dark. Also, "Hit Parade 2002"!

YEP, with overthinking every step, i guess i forgot if my ebay panel was actually working when i bought it, or it has died since. climate control works but gauges are not lit up, gonna have to test my panel see if it a panel or a wiring issue on my end.

as far as my music taste, don't judge me most of what i like is from last millennium and ins't in english

It looks great! But I kind of wish the unit was flush with the facia instead of being depressed. My OCD is killing me with that. haha

If you need a working panel I have one, sell it cheap for a member in need. Just been collecting dust here for years now.

its recessed so that less sun glare would be on it, that was intentional.

last night started to vinyl wrap it, more pics soon

Ah, understood. If it were up to me, I would have purchased a matte screen protector on it to reduce glare. But hey, it turned out great!

Do you think it's worth all the time and effort you put into it though?

To me most definitely, I do not like stock cars, there is always room for improvement. Ancient infotainment was biggest drawback for me in the tribeca,
bluetooth and usb were two major things on my list, i've test driven the last of the 2014 tribeca with navi, phone etc. and i found it to be slow and not really worth the extra money. Oh and having navi touch screen up above was the dumbest idea ever, sun is on it for half a day and you can't reach it while driving.
Same with many aftermarket units, most are pretty slow, navi doesnt show current traffic, need map reloads every once in a while.
This sony unit has what i need and use daily, back up cam is handy in tight city parking, Bluetooth is excellent, i can stream music, or as i mostly listed to old stuff just plug usb in, for navi and traffic i use my phone.

if i had these longer ribbon cables i would have been done two years ago. the panel took me three four days to make, wiring probably another 10 hours just to make sure i got it right, running camera from tail gate wasn't pleasant but not too big of a deal.
But actually enjoying your car in a way that i think should have been done from the factory is priceless, everything i need is at my fingertips,

still got few pieces to wrap then i will post pics of the finished interior.
this weekend did a tranny flush, installed hayden tranny cooler, and for ****s and giggles thru on a cone filter.

Ah, I remember when mine was a young 82k. They are so cute at that age. Now that mines in the teenage years, it's starting to get moody... Pulling a raft trailer for 1000 miles this long weekend. Hope it goes well!

on saturday bought a new pass front door, (mine had a scratch with broken paint, perks of living in NYC), and by new door i mean 07 door but in the right color, not surprisingly it fits just like a glove, had to swap my glass and mirror onto it, now i just got to pull the dent on the fender and right side will be less mangled, still looking for a front left fender in NBP.

on a plus side now i have pass front extra glass if anyone needs it let me know, as well as extra speaker, tweeter, inside door handle, wiring harness, window switch, lower door light and window motor mechanism
